REQUEST FOR FIELD TRIP PROPOSALS

2025 Conference: Field Trip Proposals

The COSA Steering committee is pleased to offer the first ever request for proposals to bring new and unique field trip opportunities hosted by local organizations to highlight Open Space oriented successes and projects around our conference locations.

The deadline for submitting 2025 proposals is Tuesday, May 27th.

Please review the information below to learn more about this year’s conference and the field trip selection criteria.

General Requirements

  • Field trips are scheduled for Tuesday afternoon, October 7 and typically run 2-4 hours. Participants should be back at the conference venue around 5:30 pm.
  • Historically, COSA has offered a variety of field trips and experiences. In 2019 in Steamboat Springs, COSA offered a variety of hikes, bike rides, boating excursions, and walking tours. In addition to those ideas, the steering committee is seeking field trips that fill the following gaps
    • Angling- spin cast and fly fishing
    • Shooting Sports
    • Golf
    • Conserved Landscapes and agriculture
  • Field trip RFP respondents should plan all-inclusive field trip opportunities that include transportation needs, educational content, and necessary logistical support.
  • Field trips that can be offered without additional costs for attendees will be prioritized. We are able to pass costs along to attendees but would prefer to offer free opportunities to conference attendees.
  • While no compensation is available for field-trip hosts, the hosts will receive recognition on all field trip related materials published by COSA and recognition during the conference via the ballroom slidedeck presentation.
  • You must fill out all information in the fields provided below. Follow up conversations with the COSA steering committee may be necessary to clarify the proposal.

The theme for the 2025 conference is Celebrating Stories of Open Space: 25 Years of Conservation and Connections.

Field Trip Selection Criteria

The COSA Steering Committee will review and select session proposals using the following set of criteria:

  • No to low cost activities
  • Inter-disciplinary trips that showcase more than one theme
  • Trip highlights local and unique landscapes and stories
  • Topics that refer to or tie in with the conference theme.
  • Relevance of the topic to local open space programs and other conservation organizations.
  • Overall balance of program topics.
  • Ability for audience interaction and engagement

Trip Coordinator Requirements

  • Each submitted proposal must designate a Trip Coordinator, who will coordinate the trip and work with any other leaders. Typically this is the person who submitted the initial proposal.
  • COSA will only send information to the Trip Coordinator. Coordinator must share all information to others supporting the trip.
  • Trip leaders are not automatically registered for the conference and must register individually if they would like to attend other conference activities.

The 2025 proposal deadline is 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, MST.
