The City of Fort Collins Natural Areas is celebrating 30 years of sharing special habitats like prairies, foothills, waterways, and forests conserved for wildlife and people. There are 52 conserved natural areas and 114 miles of trail with more being added each year. But the preservation of these natural areas doesn’t just happen; it’s the result of the work of hundreds of volunteers and paid staff who dedicate themselves to these lands in our neighborhoods, around our city, and in our region.
The City’s Senior Supervisor, Natural Areas (Facility Operations) is a position whose work is related to management of the natural areas built environment and stewardship of natural areas infrastructure and buildings. This position leads the Facility Operations team (FO) which is responsible for maintaining and repairing the Natural Areas 18 office and shop buildings, 7 residences, two meeting facilities, 23 vault toilets, 20+ historic structures, and associated facility infrastructure such as irrigation, backflows, landscaping, vegetation management, solar gates, call boxes, shelters, utilities, waste management contracts, line painting, and concrete and asphalt surfaces. FO is comprised of full-time, contractual, and seasonal employees varying in experience therefore the ideal candidate will be experienced in supervising and mentoring staff. This position also leads and manages install and demolition of infrastructure from natural areas. The Sr Supervisor supports city wide site clean-up operations. Knowledge of asset management, project management, and facility maintenance are each a plus.
This hands-on, supervisory role is under the direction of the Built Infrastructure manager within the Built Infrastructure division (Trails & Visitor Amenities, Facility Operations, Business Support) of the Natural Areas Department. This position will be part of the Built Infrastructure leadership team. Relevant experience for these positions can come from several years’ experience in natural resource or facility management with at least 3 years’ experience in a supervisory/leadership role. The education and experience requirements for these roles are a bachelor’s degree in Natural Resources or closely related field, or 6 to 7 years working in a related field. The Facility Operations Senior Supervisor is a collaborative position, provides project implementation, management, and oversight, is versatile with facility projects, and a good communicator with contractors and coworkers.
