COSA Need ID help

Hello,

Does anyone know what this is? I’m thinking a liverwort? I’ve never seen this before – it was in a spring-irrigated grass hay field up East Elk Creek in New Castle (Garfield County). It has no roots, it was just in crumbles all over the ground. It has a very fleshy, spongy feel to it. The landowner is pretty concerned about it and I’d like to be able to properly ID it to give him some peace of mind and correct treatment options (if there are any).

Thanks in advance!
