COSA CPW Job Announcement: NERO’s Chronic Wasting Disease Technicians

The Northeast Regional Office of Colorado Parks and Wildlife is excited to announce that we are seeking to hire three dedicated individuals for our Temporary Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) Technician positions.

These seasonal roles are essential to our wildlife management efforts and offer a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the natural resources field. Technicians will play a direct role in CWD surveillance, interact with hunters, and support the daily operations of our regional office.

Position Details:

  • Job Title: Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) Technician
  • Number of Openings: 3
  • Pay Rate: $18.00 per hour
  • Employment Period: Full-time (40 hours/week), from late August 2025 through late December 2025.
  • Location: CPW Northeast Regional Office (6060 Broadway, Denver, CO 80216)

Some Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Perform Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) testing on hunter-harvested deer, elk, & moose, and record all relevant data.
  • Handle cash and card payments for CWD testing.
  • Conduct mandatory inspections of hunter-harvested moose, bighorn sheep, mountain goats, black bears and mountain lions, and coordinate with law enforcement, as needed.
  • Drive transport routes between CWD sampling sites and the CPW wildlife health laboratory to deliver tissue samples for further testing and examination.
  • Maintain a clean workspace to prevent cross-contamination between samples.
  • Provide backup to the front desk, which includes selling wildlife products (hunting and fishing licenses, refund and duplicate licenses, and hunter education cards), and parks products (park passes, OHV permits, snowmobile and boat registrations).
  • Opportunities for field work with our field staff will be provided as time allows.
  • Training is provided for the sampling, testing, and inspecting required of this position.
