On behalf of all of the local organizers, I’m sharing this opportunity to submit proposals for field trips in conjunction with the 2025 SER World Conference on Ecological Restoration that will be held in Denver from September 30–October 4, 2025. Below is the announcement that has already gone out via other listservs, and you can contact Jeremy Sueltenfuss or Cini Brown (emails at end of the message) for more information on field trips. As the co-chair of the local organizing committee, I’m also available to answer general questions regarding the conference – a great opportunity to engage the global restoration community and showcase all of the impactful ecological restoration work happening in Colorado.
The 11th World Conference on Ecological Restoration will be taking place in Denver from September 30-October 4, 2025, and the organizing committee is hard at work to make sure the conference is a success.
In conjunction with the conference, we will offer optional field trips for participants to visit and experience the local region. Field trips will ideally focus on issues related to ecological restoration and ecosystem management, though field trips to particularly awesome locations offering unique glimpses of Colorado’s ecology may also be appropriate. We hope to offer a range of field trip options that allow participants to choose between a wide variety of ecosystem types and restoration treatments. We need your ideas and are looking to you all to help provide some potential field trip opportunities!
Two types of field trips will be considered:
1. One-day trips (half or full day) offered during the conference, and
2. Multi-day field trips offered before and after the conference.
We anticipate a need for approximately 10 one-day field trips and 2 multi-day field trips to accommodate demand from our delegates. All field trips will depart from the Hyatt Regency at the Colorado Convention Center. Travel time for the one-day field trips should be kept reasonable to ensure the bulk of the trip is spent in field settings engaging with restoration-related issues and interacting with people working in restoration, rather than the bulk of time being spent in transportation. We strongly encourage a round-trip transportation time of three hours or less for one-day field trips. Each field trip will be led or accompanied by at least one guide who can speak knowledgeably about ecosystem restoration and management issues pertinent at the site(s) being visited. Guides should be able to speak to an international audience without using regional acronyms or assumed regional background knowledge.

Not all details are required at this point, but the more detail you can provide the better. Once potential field trips are identified, we will work with the conference organizing committee on logistical details, at which point we will reach out for more information.
