High Plains Environmental Center’s Habitat Fair
High Plains Environmental Center will host a Habitat Fair, along with their annual Native Plant Sale, on Saturday, May 5th from 9am-3pm at 2698 Bluestem Willow Dr. The event is free and open to the public. The habitat fair will include groups and partners with missions related to landscaping with native plants, water conservation, and restoring habitat for pollinators and other native wildlife. The event will also include local food trucks and family-oriented environmental education activities. Participating organizations will include:
– Butterfly Pavilion
– Colorado Native Plant Society
– Wildlands Restoration Volunteers
– City of Loveland Open Lands and Trails
– Honeybee Keep
– Wild Ones
– Loveland Initiative for Monarch Butterflies
– CSU Extension Native Plant Masters
– Big Thompson Watershed Coalition
HPEC will also be selling a large variety of native plants grown in its onsite nursery. Many of the seeds are collected in Larimer County and are hardy plants that require very little water and are well adapted to the Northern Colorado climate. These are grown without the use of neonicotinoids and other pesticides, which are counter to the focus of preserving pollinators.
Proceeds from the Plant Sale will support Environmental Outreach and Education initiatives.
