The City of Longmont is excited to announce an opening for a full-time, benefitted Wildlife Technician I, II, or III (depending on qualifications). This is a brand-new addition to our existing wildlife team of two other technicians. While this position will assist the vegetation management team from time to time with tasks described in the attached job description, the primary responsibilities will be wildlife focused:
- Prairie dog management, including lethal control with carbon monoxide, relocation, trapping, monitoring, barrier installation and maintenance, and contractor coordination.
- Planning, designing, and implementing monitoring and surveys for a variety of taxa including small mammals, fish, avian species, herptiles, bats.
- Analyzing collected data and producing reports.
- Assist in the planning and implementation of wildlife habitat enhancements.
- Responding to, developing, and implementing management techniques for urban human-wildlife conflicts such as beavers and coyotes.
- Monitoring and responding to wildlife disease outbreaks such as avian influenza.
- Respond to sick or injured wildlife in coordination with City Animal Control, Rangers, and CPW.
- Monitor for and develop and implement management strategies and tactics for invasive wildlife such as New Zealand mudsnail.
- Act as a resource for City project managers to mitigate wildlife conflicts.
