The St. Vrain Valley Schools Innovation Center in Longmont, CO, in partnership with Boulder County Parks & Open Space, is excited to announce an opening for a Bioscience Technician to support cutting-edge environmental and bioscience research programs, including environmental DNA (eDNA) analysis using qPCR.
This is a year-round, classified position ideal for someone passionate about applied science, environmental monitoring, and mentoring students in authentic, real-world research.
Position Highlights
• Job Title: Technician, IC Bioscience Lab
• Schedule: 248 days per year (7 hours/day)
• Classification: Classified, non-exempt
• Salary: Approximately $47,700/year, with overtime opportunities as needed
• Start Timeline: Interviews planned for late January; anticipated start in February
About the Role
The Bioscience Technician manages laboratory operations for environmental DNA testing and applied environmental research projects. Responsibilities include operating and maintaining qPCR equipment, developing and validating assays, managing lab quality and safety, conducting client-based testing projects, and mentoring high school students engaged in hands-on bioscience and environmental work. Field sampling and collaboration with educators, scientists, agencies, and nonprofits are integral to the position.
Preferred Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Environmental Science, Molecular Biology, or a related field
• Experience with qPCR and eDNA workflows (sample extraction, assay design, data interpretation)
• Familiarity with environmental field sampling protocols
• Interest in applied research, workforce development, and student mentorship
