COSA Seeking Ranger Training Manuals

Hello,

Would your program be willing to share your Ranger Training Manual?

My name is Pryce Hadley – I am the Ranger Supervisor for Pitkin County Open Space & Trails and a Masters student at Western State. I am currently researching “best management practices” of open space ranger programs on the urban-interface of the inter-mountain West. Thus far, my project has consisted of focus groups and ride-alongs with rangers at multiple large open space programs. To better understand how ranger programs, like your own, are structured, the type of training rangers receive, and other operational practices, I am seeking ranger training manuals and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) from programs associated with COSA.

Several of you have already shared your manuals, and I greatly appreciate your support. With your permission, ranger manuals will be reviewed for common practices and trends. These findings will help inform my graduate studies and assist Pitkin County in re-writing its ranger training manual. Results will be shared in multiple forms, including a possible presentation at COSA 2018. Why reinvent the wheel, when there is so much great information already out there and you all are doing such amazing work? Please let me know if your program would be willing to participate.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at 970-618-9821.

Best,

Pryce
