You may have heard that funding for the national Joint Fire Science Program is being eliminated in the 2019 federal budget. The JFSP works nationwide on national wildfire issues, funds critical research based on manager recommendations, and supports the 15 Fire Science Exchanges, including your regional Southern Rockies Fire Science Network.

Sign-on to support this critical program

The President’s FY2019 budget proposes to zero out and permanently cancel the Joint Fire Science Program (JFSP). Current Congressional budget proposals provide no funding for the program in FY19. The JFSP has a proven track record of funding research critical to to improve all dimensions of wildland fire management, from hazardous fuels reduction, community and firefighter safety, to smoke management, to preparedness and response.

Please consider signing onto a letter to congressional appropriators requesting that Congress enact full funding for the JFSP.

Deadline Thursday, March 23.

The letter is framed so that researchers, educators, practitioners and fire science users can sign on as individuals. You can review and sign the letter here.
