Jefferson County is looking for an experienced Senior Planner to work with our Open Space Division. The Senior Planner will be collaborating with other team members and is someone who has experience and a strong planning knowledge base. We are looking for someone who is passionate, independent, mission-oriented, and a collaborative team player. The ideal candidate will be someone who is well versed in planning and basic project management, and someone who has proven prior experience handling large and complex projects.
The Senior Planner will be responsible for managing and coordinating large and complex long-term and short-term projects, various plan updates and new property proposal evaluations for Jefferson County Open Space (JCOS). The person will coordinate and facilitate meetings with a diverse set of in-house teams (Natural Resources, Trails, Visitor Services, Buildings and Historic Sites, etc.), external agencies and consultants as well as a diverse collection of community partners and park visitors. This person will utilize creative approaches to data gathering, analysis and application in the conservation planning process, including proficient use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for map creation and analysis. They will lead public engagement efforts for plans and projects and need to effectively work under pressure while use professional judgment to produce quality deliverables within tight time constraints which benefit Jefferson County Open Space parks and visitors.

With sustained annual funding devoted to the program thanks to a one-half of one percent sales tax revenue stream, Jeffco Open Space has preserved more than 54,000 acres, manages 28 open space parks and 252 miles of trails in the County.
Essential Duties
The Senior Planner will be able to:
· Coordinate significantly complex, long-term planning efforts, including update to organizational strategic plan, Countywide/system-wide plans, and Park Plans/Land Management Plans.
· Coordinate and Facilitate meetings with JCOS teams (Natural Resources, Trails, Buildings and Historic Sites, Visitor Services, etc.) in order to gain consensus on park development plans, trail planning efforts, and other projects.
· Draft existing conditions reports for capital projects at locations across the JCOS park system.
· Demonstrate proficiency in research, utilize creative approach to diverse data gathering and analysis in the conservation planning process, and work both collaboratively and independently to achieve goals.
· Lead public engagement efforts on planning projects by representing JCOS at external meetings with partners, community groups and involved citizens.
· Effectively administer contracts with consultants by creating and overseeing, scopes of work, reports, and plans related to open space development and management.
· Obtain and analyze data while developing solutions based on organizational business needs.
· Demonstrate flexibility and resourcefulness in a dynamic environment.
· Evaluate property proposals for new land acquisition, including the use of GIS software for map making and data gathering.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s Degree in conservation planning, urban and regional planning, environmental policy, landscape architecture, or another related field or equivalent combination of education and experience on a year for year basis.
· Minimum three years related experience in conservation planning, urban and regional planning, land management, environmental policy, landscape architecture, or other related field.
Preferred Qualifications:
· Master’s Degree preferred in conservation planning, urban and regional planning, environmental policy, landscape architecture, or another related field or equivalent combination of education and experience on a year for year basis.
· Five years of work experience in one of the above areas preferred.
· Experience in public sector planning, open space or park planning.
· Management experience with multiple large planning projects of varying complexity.
· Overseeing consultants for planning projects.
· An understanding of planning process and theory.
· Advanced skills in ArcGIS and Adobe Creative Suite
