The Open Space Project Coordinator oversees restoration projects in the Middle Rio Grande Bosque and other important areas in Major Public Open Space. Position Summary
Coordinate, plan, supervise, and participate in the maintenance activities, construction projects and operations of the Open Space Division of the Parks and Recreation Department. Oversee restoration, construction, continued maintenance and projects of Open Space properties; coordinate open space activities with other divisions and outside agencies; ensure work quality and provide highly responsible and complex staff assistance to higher level management staff.
Preferred Knowledge
· Operational characteristics, services and activities of forest and rangeland management
· Wildlife identification and wildlife suppression
· General Arboricultural pruning techniques
· Plant and tree identities
· Herbicide and pesticide application procedures
· Principals of municipal budget preparation and control and purchasing rules and regulations
· Operation and maintenance of heavy earth moving and forestry harvesting equipment
· Tree harvesting and identification including plant physiology and pathology
· Operations, services and activities of an open space facility maintenance program
· Principles and practices of supervision, training and performance evaluation
· Occupational hazards and standard safety practices
· Pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, codes and regulations
· Computers including spreadsheets, word processing and electronic work orders
Preferred Skills & Abilities
· Coordinate and participate in the management of assigned operations, services and activities
· Supervise, direct and coordinate the work of multiple crews
· Oversee Open Space maintenance and renovation procedures
· Prepare cost estimates for needed maintenance and repairs
· Analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions and implement recommendations in support of goals
· Interpret and apply Federal, State and local policies, laws and regulations
· Select, supervise, train and evaluate staff
· Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work including the general public
