Description of Job
The position will primarily assist Area 2 DWM’s with trapping, immobilizing, relocating or
processing nuisance bears and mountain lions. The intern will respond to nuisance wildlife calls such as deer, elk and other smaller wildlife species as directed by the supervisor, AWM or the on- call DWM.
- As needed, the intern will also assist wildlife property technicians on habitat improvement projects on the Area SWA’s such as Russian Olive control, invasive weed control, seed planting on restoration projects, and dumping mitigation.
- They may also assist area biologists in tracking of collared elk using radio telemetry, monitoring bighorn sheep, wildlife surveys, collecting field data, and fish sampling to provide a broader overall experience.
- The intern will be given diverse hands on training in all aspects of the job.
- They will work beside District Wildlife Managers, biologists, property technicians, and wildlife health staff learning about wildlife capture, surveying wildlife populations, wildlife behavior, human-wildlife conflicts, and developing communication skills working with the public.
