The Position With TNC: The Land Protection Program Manager works with the Director of Resilient Lands and a wide range of colleagues on the overall planning, coordination, and implementation of strategic land protection projects that secure important habitat for plants and animals along with resilient and connected natural systems that facilitate climate adaptation for people and nature. The Program Manager uses the full range of protection tools, including gift, easement, purchase, and cooperative projects with federal, state, and local government, conservation organizations and other partners as appropriate.
Essential Functions: The Land Protection Program Manager designs and implements projects that advance TNC’s conservation priorities by initiating and managing TNC-led transactions as well as working with land trusts, government agencies, Tribal Nations, and others in realizing land and water transactions and projects. The Program Manager typically serves as the principal project manager and/or direct negotiator on TNC-led real estate transactions and represents TNC in relationships and negotiations with landowners, government agencies and other diverse partners. They manage protection inquiries and screen potential protection projects, negotiate, and manage complex real estate transactions, including developing and implementing financial models for projects and assisting with fundraising. The Program Manager aids efforts to adjust TNC Colorado’s portfolio of land assets (conservation easements and preserves) by completing asset transfer transactions across Colorado, which may include working with public and private partners. The Program Manager may directly address compliance issues on a set of conservation easements, including dealing with amendments, violations, and landowner requests for exercising reserved rights. The Program Manager will serve as a strategic partner and subject matter expert on teams with conservation strategy, science, stewardship, philanthropy, and external affairs staff. While the work is focused in Colorado, the Program Manager may also aid projects that extend beyond state borders to achieve larger regional goals.
Starting Salary Range: $77,000-$90,000/yr
