GOCO’s $500,000 for Youth Corps Projects on Land Trust, Open Space, & Local Government Properties closes this week on Thursday, September 21st at 4:00 pm!
Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO) and the Colorado Youth Corps Association (CYCA) are receiving applications for our $500,000 grant opportunity for open space, local government, and land trusts to hire conservation corps! In addition to public parks and open spaces, corps projects can occur on private lands protected by a conservation easement.
The RFP is attached to this email and www.cyca.org. The application deadline is Sept. 21, 2017 at 4:00 PM. Successful projects will be announced in December 2017 and crews will complete the proposed work in 2018. Matching funds/support not required but encouraged. Applicants can apply for youth corps crews (ages 16-25) to complete a variety of stewardship projects including (but NOT limited to):
· 2 week project minimum
· Trail construction and maintenance
· Tamarisk, Russian olive, and other invasive species mitigation – chainsaw crews, including pesticide/herbicide application, are available
· Fence installation and de-construction
· Wildlife habitat improvement
· Riparian restoration
· Fire Fuels mitigation – chainsaw crews available
Youth corps crews work on a “per week” basis. One week of a youth corps crew includes 8-10 members that work at least 320 hours collectively. They arrive on site with skilled supervision, hand tools, transportation, and camping gear. Day crews are also available.
