Call for Applications

The Society of Outdoor Recreation Professionals (SORP) is now accepting nominations for scholarships to the 2020 National Outdoor Recreation Conference (NORC) in Knoxville, TN, April 27 – 30, 2020. SORP fosters the next generation of outdoor recreation professionals by providing conference scholarships. The conference is an excellent opportunity to learn about the latest outdoor recreation research and practices and to network with other attendees.

SORP provides two types of scholarship opportunities: 1) Student, and 2) New Professional. Applicants may only apply for one scholarship type. SORP is committed to inclusivity as well as social and environmental justice. We strongly encourage individuals of color, those with tribal affiliation, those with disabilities, those who identify as LGBTQ, veterans, and anyone else inclusively to apply for a conference scholarship.

Student Scholarship Criteria and Award Details

Eligible student scholarship applicants should be an undergraduate or graduate student enrolled full-time in an outdoor recreation research, planning, management, and policy development or closely related degree program.Students are encouraged to ask their university for funds to supplement SORP’s Student Conference Scholarship.

Award includes: Full conference registration and a 1-year membership to SORP

New Professional Scholarship Criteria and Award Details

Eligible New Professional Scholarship applicants should be employed in the outdoor recreation profession and have completed an outdoor recreation degree within the last five years or be under 35 years of age. Scholarship candidates must be current SORP members in order to apply. Applicants are encouraged to ask their organization for funds to supplement SORP’s New Professional Conference Scholarship.

Award includes: Full conference registration and a $750 stipend for travel/lodging expenses
