Wages: Crew Leader: $735/Week
CLDP: $500/Week + AmeriCorps Education Award at completion of service term

Southwest Conservation Corps (SCC) is a program of the non-profit service organization, Conservation Legacy, that is built on the legacy of the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) that operated from 1933 – 1942. SCC provides youth and young adults opportunities to complete conservation projects on public lands. While serving with SCC, members receive training on job skills, conflict resolution, leadership, teamwork, and environmental stewardship.
The Adult Crew Leader position is an opportunity to make a difference in young peoples’ lives while completing conservation projects on public lands! Leaders will be mentors, educators, and facilitators for young adults, working to promote the health and resiliency of our land, air and water. SCC’s Adult Crew Leaders will spend nearly 3 months in a crew leader training period, which will include an SCC leadership skills week, chainsaw and crosscut training, technical trails training, administrative training, and prep weeks in addition to project work. Over the course of the season, the CLDP will gain the knowledge, skills and confidence necessary to take on full Crew Leader responsibilities the following season. CLDPs are responsible for assisting Crew Leaders in ensuring the safety and well-being of their crew. Starting in late May, a crew Leader and CLDP will co-lead a crew of young adults. Crews have 6-7 members and work in front and backcountry locations in all weather conditions. Standard schedule consists of 8 days on-hitch and 6 days off with some exception. On-hitch, crews camp together, prepare all meals together, and work together as a group to complete all projects and chores.
In an effort to prioritize representational leadership, we are also separately accepting applications for leaders of our Women’s + and Queer crews! Our affinity crews create an inclusive space for groups that have been under-represented to gain hands-on experience, technical skills training, and professional development to propel them into career in conservation or a related field. The Women’s + Crew seeks to provide a supportive learning environment for cis women, trans women, and non-binary individuals to work, learn from, and grow with one another. The Queer Crew seeks to provide a safe, non-judgmental, and inclusive space for all regardless of gender or sexual identity. We value respect (of names, pronouns, orientation, gender, and philosophies), confidentiality, boundaries (both physical and auditory), along with maintaining a safe space for all.
