COSA City of Lakewood’s Let’s Go Camping 2023!

Hello COSA partners!

The City of Lakewood open space is hosting our annual Let’s Go Camping event at Bear Creek Lake Park on June 9 and 10 this year. This is an amazing event that reaches out directly to families that have never camped before due to fear, cost or other barriers. We provide a safe environment for these families, loaner camping gear, and a schedule packed with fun activities! One portion of the event is an educational booth area where many of our partner agencies and local outdoor companies provide engaging activities and outreach to the campers. We are currently recruiting to fill these booth spaces, and would love to have more agencies and groups from the Denver Metro Area join. Please take a look at the event description and video below, and reach back out to me with interest or questions. If you joined us for this event in the past, please ignore this, as you will be getting a personal email this week also.

Thanks!

The City of Lakewood Parks will be bringing back the award-winning event, Let’s Go Camping to Bear Creek Lake Park! This event is dedicated to bringing in families that have never had the opportunity to camp or partake in outdoor recreation either because they have not been able to afford it, have never been taught, or are apprehensive of starting again with children who have never camped. We have reserved the entire campground this year (47 sites) and half will be specifically for low-income families to try and reach that demographic that is missing in most of our parks.

This event is a chance for people who have never gone camping before to come and try it out! Geared to be open to participants from all backgrounds, we want people to learn about all the fun activities that they can partake in the outdoors. These activities include fishing, outreach, archery, games for the younger kids and so much more! To make this more appealing we will be providing dinner and breakfast so that the new campers don’t have to worry about that. A limited supply of tents and sleeping bags are available for borrowing.

Let’s Go Camping will host over 47 families, and we would love to have your group out to offer an informative and interactive booth for these families to learn about what the surrounding area provides! This is your chance to get connected to a hard-to-reach demographic and show them the outdoor opportunities and activities that they could partake in in the future. Have them do an activity with your group or possibly a fun game! This event has tripled in size from its first year and will now encompass the entire Bear Creek Lake Park Campground.

The event is June 10th with booth and activities up and available from 10:00am-2:00pm. Set-up starts at 9:00am on Saturday.

I hope you will join in on this exciting event to help make it the best it can be! If you would like to join, please let me know. We are also looking for donations as prizes for our participants, so they are more equipped to go out on their own after this event or any informative pamphlets about your organization that we can give them.

Please let me know if you have any further questions. Below is a video made from the first Let’s Go Camping event in 2019 to really give you an idea of this great opportunity.

Sincerely,
