COSA Lakewood’s Let’s Go Camping 2024

Hello everyone!

The City of Lakewood Parks will be bringing back the award-winning event, Let’s Go Camping to Bear Creek Lake Park! This event is dedicated to bringing in families that have never had the opportunity to camp or partake in outdoor recreation either because they have not been able to afford it, have never been taught, or are apprehensive of starting again with children who have never camped. We have reserved the entire campground this year (47 sites) and half will be specifically for low-income families to try and reach that demographic that is missing in most of our parks.

This event is a chance for people who have never gone camping before to come and try it out! Geared to be open to people from all backgrounds and experiences, we want people to learn about all the fun activities that they can take part in the outdoors. These activities include fishing, outreach, archery, games for the younger kids and so much more! To make this more appealing we will be providing dinner and breakfast so that the new campers don’t have to worry about that. A limited supply of tents and sleeping bags are available for borrowing.

Let’s Go Camping will host over 47 families, and we would love to have your group out to offer an informative and interactive booth for these families to learn about what the surrounding area provides! This is your chance to get connected to a hard-to-reach demographic and show them the outdoor opportunities and activities that they could take part in in the future. Have them do an activity with your group or possibly a fun game! This event has tripled in size from its first year and now encompasses the entire Bear Creek Lake Park Campground.

The event is June 8th with booth and activities up and available from 12:30 to 3:00 pm. Set-up starts at 11:00 am on Saturday.

I hope you will join in on this exciting event to help make it the best it can be! If you would like to join, please let me know. We are also looking for donations as prizes for our participants, so they are more equipped to go out on their own after this event. Everything from food for dinner and breakfast, to gear and gift cards so that the families can continue learning and exploring outdoors after this event. Anything helps! Plus, it is a great way to get marketing out to these new families just entering the outdoor field.

Please let me know if you have any further questions. Below is a video from a previous year’s Let’s Go Camping event to really give you an idea of this great opportunity.
