About the Field Operations Coordinator Roles | Deadline to apply: Nov. 16

The Continental Divide National Scenic Trail (CDT) spans 3,100 miles across New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming, Idaho, and Montana, connecting remote wilderness to Rocky Mountain communities. The Continental Divide Trail Coalition (CDTC) is dedicated to completing, protecting, and elevating the CDT while inspiring a diverse community to steward the trail and its connected landscapes.

The Field Operations Coordinator is a collaborative leadership position responsible for supporting CDTC’s field operations to ensure the trail is maintained to the highest standards of safety and sustainability. Based in Golden, Colorado or Helena, MT, this role works closely with the USFS, BLM, NPS, youth corps, professional trail crews, and local partners, primarily focusing on field operations, including on-the-ground management of Great American Outdoors Act (GAOA) funding through 2028.

Key Responsibilities

  • Field Operations & Crew Leadership (~70%): Serve as lead field staff supervising frontcountry and backcountry volunteer crews, partner organizations, and youth corps in trail maintenance and large-scale feature construction. Prepare Project Specifications, Emergency Response Plans, and travel logistics; enforce CDTC safety protocols and Risk Assessments; conduct trail condition assessments; lead volunteer training courses; and manage tools, PPE, basecamp gear, and vehicles.
  • CDT Adopter Program (~10%): Coordinate with CDTC Adopters and land management agencies to address maintenance needs, and maintain the Master Adopter Database, Interactive Map, and ArcGIS database to track adopted, available, and closed trail sections.
  • Program Administration (~15%): Manage regional tool and vehicle inventories; assist with volunteer communications and registration using Neon CRM; support project budget tracking, expense reporting, and volunteer hours for federal funding compliance; and maintain accurate project documentation.
  • Organizational Support (~5%): Champion CDTC’s mission and vision, participate in organizational planning meetings, and support broader Field Operations Program objectives.

    COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

Starting annual salary of $54,000-$55,000, depending on experience. This position is eligible for overtime per federal standards. CDTC provides a benefits package including $475 per month towards a company-sponsored health & dental insurance, $50 monthly cell phone reimbursement, $75 monthly 403(b) retirement plan contributions, and a starting annual time off package of 29 days in addition to 14-16 paid holidays a year.
