COSA City of Longmont Job Announcement – Senior Natural Resources Technici an – Plant Ecology


The City of Longmont Ecosystem Management Division has an exciting new job opportunity for a Senior Natural Resources Technician in plant ecology. This is a brand new position will help take our division to the next stages of planning and implementation of system wide ecological restoration. Some of the main projects this position will lead are:

  • Hire and oversee a consultant to conduct vegetation mapping and site condition assessments of properties to aid in the creation of property stewardship plans (current conditions, desired future conditions, and how to get there).
  • Develop and operate a native plant propagation program including native seed and plant materials collections. Grow plants for restoration projects utilizing our nursery and newly constructed greenhouse.
  • Develop and implement a vegetation surveying and monitoring program to improve adaptive management of projects and mitigate impacts to habitat.
  • Plan and implement active restoration projects – seeding, planting, weed control, irrigation, monitoring
  • Be the go to resource in the City for other project managers needing assistance with planning and revegetation projects like utilities installation, road construction, oil & gas reclamation. This includes reviewing and editing landscape plans and helping oversee contractors performing revegetation and weed control.

This position offers flexible scheduling, including working from home when performing office tasks but obviously requires significant field work. Benefits include starting employment with 40 hours of vacation, vacation accrual based on all relevant career experience, pension with early retirement possibility, health/dental/eye care insurance, 12 paid holidays, and potential for increased pay following successful completion of a 6 month probationary period when hired.
